Crystal Dragon

Hey Guys! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I was enjoying summer so much that I almost forgot about my blog! Here is a Dragon Drawing I did today. The sketch i started had a little help and inspiration from the DragonArt Evolution Book. The rest I did in Procreate as usual.

Here is the sketch! I took a picture of it with my Ipad and uploaded it to Procreate.

I traced over the sketch with an inking tool, and changed some of the detail in the eye, beak, and horns.

Here I added a dark grey coloring to the body and horns. I darkened the beak later on.

I actually did the coloring before I shaded and highlighted, but I forgot and took pictures in the wrong order. Here I took my pen and made some intense highlights in white on a separate layer, and then used soft light to make it more realistic.

Here I added some Shading to the back, muscles, horns, and around the eyes.

Here I decided to create an appealing contrast to the black using bright purple, while also giving it a cool crystal dragon look. I started the base of the purple in lavender, and added shading to the eyes.

Here I created a gradient look to the gills by using the eyedropper, and repeatedly brushing across at a low opacity over and over again from dark to light. This was the most time consuming part of the drawing.

Here I added some highlights to the gills to give texture and dimension. I had to use some overlay and softlight on the layer to get the intense white to blend with the violet.
